NORTH WRAXALL CHAPEL

WELCOME AGAIN TO OUR HOME PAGE

The second half of my Statement of Belief is

  JESUS IS LORD!

To many people this has very little meaning today. But in the 1st c AD it meant a great deal; in fact it was a very serious statement indeed. In the Roman Empire, there was only one 'Lord' - Caesar. To recognise any other 'Lord' was considered to be an act of treason, punishable by death. No one in their right mind would use the term of any other person on earth. But Christians did!

Why did they do this? Quite simply because they were convinced that Jesus of Nazareth, Who had been executed on a Cross, had risen from the dead, thus justifying His claims to be the Saviour of all Who accepted Him. In recognising Christ's claims, not only in their minds, but also by public declaration, they were reconciled to God - and they were no longer afraid of anything - not even death - or the Emperor in Rome.

To say, 'Jesus is Lord' seems easy today, but to live out the implications can be very costly in terms of being prepared to stand up against tyranny, poverty, and injustice. [Read for yourself in Romans ch 10 vv 9-10]

JESUS

IS

LORD, Even

if we don't

recognise

Him!
