WELCOME BACK: (Apologies for delay!)

The other day I came across a book entitled 'The Atheists Guide to Christmas.' It was full of ideas for a non-religious celebration of Christmas - parties, recipes, crafts, etc.

This set me thinking. I have no quarrel with the idea of atheists celebrating, but I find it odd that they use the term 'Christmas' which refers to an historic event, rather than a season of the year. For atheists, there can be no point in Christmas as a 'season' if they do not recognise the event itself.

For Christians the 'celebration' ought to focus on the fact that God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, has not left His creatures to fend for themselves with no hope of improvement. In Jesus Christ He shows that He loves every one of us, and longs to walk alongside of us, as one who understands our daily struggles. One of the names given to Jesus is 'Immanuel' which means 'God with us.' Now there's a good, solid reason to really celebrate!

So ..... 'How will you and I celebrate Christmas this year?' There's still time to prepare.

Sincerely,

Pastor Alan
